    What about Boston?

  2. Play any of their first three albums. Then get back to me.

Four pages and not ONE mention of Buddy Holly & The Crickets?

    1) CCR.
    2) Beach Boys
    3) Bruce
    4) The Band (most people think of their music as American)

I hang my head in shame for not mentioning the Blasters in my Top 5. They're tremendous, even if the only thing I own by them is their 2-CD anthology -- Testament: The Complete Slash Recordings

"Fourth of July" was X, not The Blasters, although it was written by Dave Alvin.

First post ot the thread said Buddy Holly & the Crickets weren't being considered as a band because it was basically Buddy Holly.
The Band isn't an American band (too many Canadiens in it). But their music is definitely American.

Dave Alvin's solo version is great, but not the fast-paced rock of X or the Blasters

Whoops. Didn't read the entire post.

That said, if people want to consider the Doors (which I don't) or Bruce, then Buddy has to be in.

Besides, he's the sine qua non of American Rock.

I agree with you. If you're including Bruce & the E Street Band; Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, etc. then you have to include Buddy Holly & the Crickets, the original and one of the best.

I would think Masters Petty and Springsteen should be 1 and 1A on this list.

Thank you for writing that! I can't possibly express how annoying it is to hear Morrison talked about like he was some sort of lyrical god. I defy anyone to read -- READ, not sing -- the lyrics to any of his songs out loud and find a way to not laugh before the chorus.
