If Jerry Morales and his basket catches from the 1970s Cubs era aren't being considered, this thread is worthless.

Photos from that catch show it's a great one, but the guy (Billy Flamion, now a freshman at Oregon) didn't get quite the air the LCC player did:

I was at a game with my dad (one of those last father-son baseball games we did) in the mid 1980s. Ken Griffey Sr. made a great grab over the left field wall against the Red Sox. I want to say Marty Barrett hit it. He kind of climbed the wall and went a row or two back before grabbing it and falling back onto the field. For years they played it whenever they did those montages at the ballpark, but I haven't see it in a long time. Anyone else remember that one?

I'm not ripping him. I just refuse to make him out to be better than he was because of all the diving catches he made that other CFs would have made without diving. Andruw Jones comes to mind.

That catch was one of the few times I swore in front of my father and did not catch a scolding for it.

I will. That award is meaningless. It was always meaningless, but they proved it when they gave it to a DH.

Still, he's sitting at home counting his money, and you're calling him a loser.

Edmonds didn't have every tool in the bag, but I loved watching him play. Is being a gamer meaningless, too?

Yes, Luis Soto made some great catches for the Yankees ...

OK, I just saw the original catch on SportsCenter. That was pretty damn remarkable, low fence or not.

He could have relied on God-given ability.

He would have been a lot less scrappy, though.
