Apparently not to you. You can enjoy watching whoever you want to enjoy watching, including guys with limited range in CF who slow down on balls so they can get their highlights on sportscenter by diving for what should have been easy balls.

    Damn, I forgot about gamer.

A scrappy, hard-working, smart gamer, that Jim Edmonds. I bet he'd be a gym rat, too.

    Edmonds was no David Eckstein.

Goes without saying. Gamers are measured on the Eckstein ScaleTM.

Yeah, David Eckstein, the token Protestant member of the Los Angeles-area high school all-Jewish team.

Who are the greatest defensive players you have seen play (at each position)?

    My list:

    C: Ivan Rodriguez
    1B: Don Mattingly
    2B: Roberto Alomar
SS: Derek Jeter (I almost went with Vizquel but he's not half the hitter Jeter is)
    3B: Scott Brosius
OF: Andrew Jones, Bernie Williams, Jim Edmonds

    Scott Brocius! That's awesome.

Did he beat out Charlie Hayes to make your list?

I think Scotty won a couple Gold Gloves so I'm not alone in thinking he was really good.

Rolen was 10 times the third baseman as Brosius.

    I'll play ...

    C Ivan Rodriguez
1B Keith Hernandez (I was pretty young when he played, but I did see him play pretty regularly and I can't think of anyone since who is mentioned as being better)
    2B Roberto Alomar
3B Wade Boggs (honestly, the position itself didn't jump out at me in terms of defensive prowess, but I do remember Boggs being very good. Chipper Jones would also earn some consideration. Really, though, you could tell me Eric Chavez is the best 3B ever and I'd probably believe you if you typed in all caps.)
    SS Ozzie Smith
    OF Ken Griffey Jr.
    OF Kirby Puckett
    OF Andruw Jones
    P Mike Mussina
