Shame on SJ members for making it take 9 pages to refer ANY NYPD Blue classics.

By far, the most gripping and dusty-room-creating scene I have seen on TV was the episode when, after holing up with his son for weeks after his wife's death at the hands of a crazed father at a courthouse and being basically on suicide watch, Sipowicz has to return to help grill a perp and runs into John Irvin, the gay office manager, who encouraged the crazed father to attend the trial in the first place and who feels responsible for Sylvia's death.
Sipowicz, who was a huge homophobe, embraces John as he cries and says he is sorry and then Sipowicz tells the deeply religious man he was a hero for taking a bullet from the man himself, "Don't you think she is in a better place?"

This scene had me on the edge of my seat as you did not know how Andy would react and then had me wiping away the dust as he consoles his complete opposite.

I still record the two hours of NYPD Blue every Tuesday late-night on TNT. One of the greatest shows of all time. But the numerous fantastic scenes don't leap into my mind right now.

Remember that one episode where Beverly Hills Buntz was investigating global warming?

That was one of my all-time favorites.

I obviously respect your opinion on the Wire, but I'll politely agree to disagree. Maybe I didn't think about the script as much because I thought it was just two great actors going back and forth in an extremely unique scene. A powerful four minutes, IMO.

Damn what a great friggin' thread. Don't know how I missed it but I just ran through all nine pages. Well done, ya'll.

    Some of my faves:

-- Final Wonder Years. When they pan across the family and Kevin is narrating how everyone ended up and he gets to "...when Dad passed away" (only two years after the time of the show's finale), that really got me.

-- When Diane left Cheers. I thought that was well-written, Diane saying "I'll be back...in six months!" but Sam saying "have a good life" as she walked up the outside stairs. (And into the worst career move in TV history.)

-- Hill Street Blues is my all-time favorite drama, I could list a ton of scenes. Darn near every episode ended great; one of the early ones I liked had LaRue is at an A.A. meeting and hears a familiar voice from the back: "How's it going, J.D.?" It was Furillo, with the show establishing that he's a recovering alcoholic too. Another great one was when Sgt. Esterhaus died, considering Michael Conrad had died in real life.

-- Of course WKRP, per my sig. Turkey episode, Venus facing the music after dodging the draft, Les out on the ledge. Also liked when Jennifer told Sparky Anderson she was a season-ticket holder and Sparky quoted her exact seat ;D

Two more from the West Wing:

I forget which Thanksgiving ep it was but when Bartlett calls the Butterball Hotline.

And when Josh and Toby lose it in "24 Hours in America" when they realize that they didn't account for Indiana's ecclectic daylight savings time. Donna: "They might need a minute" as Toby beats the hell out of a guardrail in the background.

  7. Bobby Simone's death is up there, o_t.

Simone's death was gripping that season, but the whole pigeon guy leading him into the afterlife crap kinda wore on me.
I also loved he episode where Andy ran into the father of a missing girl when looking for a car for Andy Jr. and happens to meet an acquaintance of the man who he never interviewed when the girl disappeared. Come to find out the guy in question took the girl and Andy expects to recover a body only to find out the girl was living with a relative of the man who lost a child. When he reunites the father and daughter, the room gets dusty for this parent.

  9. Sipowicz as single Dad could have been so awful but it was so great.

Yeah, but I kind of thought that was just a bit overdone for my tastes. I think they did great leading up to it, but to get the heart transplant, have him start getting better and then turn for the worse, I just thought it was overplayed.

That is one of my favorite episodes of the run. One of the rare happy endings.

Same here. Great storyline, weak finish.

Some of the funny stuff they did with the nude scenes always stood out to me.

The scene with Sipowicz and Sylvia in the shower together was a perfect example. They just had to play it for laughs showing him naked, so they really played up how the character can often be uncomfortable in his own skin.

"That's going to be really clean." Just cracked me up.

His kid walking in on the Charlotte Ross naked was priceless, too.
