Gridders, spikers, cagers, grapplers, harriers and other slang

    Ugh ... why? Harrier to refer to cross-country runners? The first time I saw that word in a headline, I was thinking, "What the fuck is a harrier?"

    You have to tread carefully when calling a softball pitcher a hurler. Never know when you're dealing with a bulimic.

    Anyone using "the bump" to describe the pitchers mound needs to be kicked in the teeth.

    I interviewed a soccer player once who called a teammate's goal a "killer toe bash."

    As in, "Carlos Zambrano will be shooting the pill in Game 2 of the NLDS on Thursday."
