Guess Oprah's Monday sports guest ...

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by thebiglead, Apr 13, 2007.

  1. Stanley Crouch is a brilliant contrarian who's been beating this drum for almost 20 years. (Back in the day, he and the late, great Lars-Erik Nelson used to write every Wednesday on the op-ed of the NYDN. I stopped in and read them at the local convenience every week.) He is down on all rap music on aesthetic -- some would say "jazz-snob" -- grounds and always has been. I think he paints with too broad a brush, always, but he's plainly thought the issues through.

  2. Anyone watching this? Is Whitlock on or did they switch to the VT shootings? Can't get to my tv right now.

For today, I'm OK with that. Curious to see whether Whitlock blasts Russell Simmons and Common, knowing that he's probably got plenty of their music (for Simmons, I'm talking Def Jam, of course) in his iPod right now.

White-brained, watching it right now. Missed the first 10 minutes, though.

p.s. Fiancee noticed this ... only problem with the panel is no white rep for that perspective.

Not sure what that post refers to. During the India.Arie interview, they cut away to a VaTech press conference.

The one time I want to watch Oprah and the Va. Tech stuff is pre-empting it...

Sports Brah hits it on the money. I just watched the show and Jason was outclassed. It should he does no research.

I dont think he knew about Al's protests and Essence Magazine's report. I don't think mainstream media cares what is reported in Black publications.

I was talking with a white editor and he didnt know what Ebony Magazine was.

The point is that the powers that be only covers things they feel are newsworthy... and when stuff like Imus happens.. they jump on rap music and say the black community does nothing to fight against this... when in fact it has been.. yall just didnt care..... another example was when Imus was arguing to the editor of Ebony about how black journalists didnt cover sickle cell issues in the black community... when in fact the black community has been covering this for years... But Imus acts like he has discovered this and the mainstream media does not care.

  8. Haven't watched the whole thing, only parts, but Whitlock and Sharpton go at it ... Sharpton's getting the applause.

At this point, I'm going to have to wait until this hits Youtube. Virginia Tech is on every channel right now...

I'm not saying I disagree, just disappointed that I won't get to see Whitlock on Oprah...

Exactly. Who says I need to have the Oprah show, and every other show on at the time, preempted with the Va. Tech story slammed down my throat by every media outlet? Seriously, it's ridiculous.

I'm watching it online right now... Whitlock got a huge ovation the first time he spoke... He's doing well...

Sharpton got the applause because he's more well-spoken and ably defending himself. That doesn't mean what Whitlock is saying is wrong or off-base. Whitlock did a great job, IMO, presenting his opinion. Crowd seemed to agree with him, but then, they're agreeing with all of the panelists.
