Take it to a guitar shop near you. I had a similar problem with my Martin DCE15. Glue failed. Fortunately, that kind of thing was a warranty repair, so the work was free. Unfortunately, the only Martin-licensed warranty repair guy in my state was 250 miles away. So while the work was free, shipping it there and back cost me about $100.

Don't try to do it yourself. One of the problems when the neck starts to separate is that the action changes and it becomes almost unplayable.

    I know from Shonen Knife.

It's a good song to practice for a beginner because it has a lot of chord changes, but they are all very common chords. There are no crazy jazz minor sevenths with a flatted fifth or stuff like that.

Often for beginners, the tendency is to practice three-chord songs like 'Not Fade Away' or 'Helpless.'
I thought this was a good, simple song with multiple chord changes but still with a simple melody that's easy to follow.

Definitely do not do neck resets or repairs yourself.
But without seeing the guitar, you can't say if it's even worth fixing.

    Absolutely, Buck.

And really, I'm someone who's not much more than a beginner, but it's fun to find songs with common chords that you can sing along with. Even if your voice isn't as good as Karen Carpenter's ... :)

One of the first songs I learned was an easy arrangement of "Heart of Gold," which has similar attributes to "Top of the World":

    Verses: Em, C, D, G

    then the chorus: Em G C G

Keeps me searchin' for a heart of gold ... and I'm getting old ......

intro and fade-out, just mess around with Em, D and G.

Believe it or not, what he's playing isn't that hard. Don't get me wrong, it's not for beginners, but it's more the product of a great guitar with great tone. Just a ton of hand movements, hammer-ons, pull-offs and 7 chords. The thing that maybe impresses me the most isn't his playing, but his rhythm. I can likely play what he's playing, but I simply don't have the rhythm to make it sound that good, nor is my Taylor of that quality.

    I disagree, Gator.
What he's playing isn't complicated, I understand it. I could play a rhythm part that approximates it.
But the clarity of it isn't just the guitar. It's good technique.
I can't do it. I don't play that percussive style. And no matter how nice the guitar I couldn't get that clarity on all the notes at that tempo and stay on rhythm.

    And he was 15.

Got to play a couple of these guitars during my trip to Nashville last week:

Great, great store, worth stopping by if you're ever in the area.

I got my first guitar 27 years ago, and I couldn't trust myself walking in that store. I don't even let myself dream about owning guitars that nice. I can't even imagine being in a room with a collection like that.

I'm going to pop an Abilify.
