I post this for multiple reasons:

    • This is a great song.
    • If you're too young or hip to play Hank Williams or Johnny Cash you might not understand the importance of learning the boom-chuck rhythm.
    • I just read an article in Acoustic Guitar about reversing the boom-chuck, and I'm blown away. As a lifelong rhythm player, this is a trick I didn't think of. Very cooll.
    • I've been obsessing about why I like Lennon more than McCartney, and this song is one of the reasons. It's two chords with a bass-note hammer-on. It's so incredibly simple yet powerful.
    • The vocal delivery is weird because the performers not a native
      English speaker
    • Good song to learn.

More greatness,: He can do it, so can you.

Please note: I advocate music as a hobby.

A bit of a threadjack ... Christmas season is always a chance for me to play guitar more often.

My favorite Christmas song to play on guitar: O Holy Night. Some picking, then some strumming. Relatively easy open chords.

Of course, this guy can sing it way better than me:

    Anyone else have a favorite?

'Silver Bells' is nice and easy. Good for fingerpicking.
I love doing 'Silent Night,' but I switch out the lyrics for the Joe Piscopo-as-Frank-Sinatra version from SNL. Makes the GF, which adds to my amusement with it.

Another good one ... "Let it Snow," which of course is more about by-the-fire action than Christmas.

It's fun to goof around with chords during the "When we finally kiss goodnight ..." section.

If you like to wig out a little, the melody line for 'We Three Kings' is very cool.
Change the phrasing and the fill and lead-in notes. You'll feel like Coltrane playing with 'My Favorite Things.'

Because it's the best Beatles song:

    1. 'Dig a Pony' is such and incredibly cool, interesting and wildly good song, it's hard to follow.

    B. This is just a youngster jamming the traditional song 'Little Sadie' clawhammer style. Used to be a very comm playing style, with banjo, too. I play guitar and banjo, but I don't play clawhammer. This kid kills it.

Wow, Chet and Doc making things look simple. This is two of the greatest guitar players who ever lived making crazy music cool and easy.
