Reports say the serial numbers of the handguns had been removed. So it's possible he didn't get them legally.

Whether this lunatic got the guns legally or not, my point remains: if some homicidal nutjob wants to get a gun, he'll find a way to get one, legally or not.

Believe me, some ahole is plotting to break the record. I know that's a sad thought, but it's true.

Sadly WI, I'm afraid you're right. And that won't change even if you ban them.

I would also submit that it would be interesting to find statistics for violent crime overall in Japan. For while guns are not widely available, part of their school physical education classes is learning about some of the most deadly forms of unarmed combat known to man.

Agree also with the earlier take that we should tighten federal handgun laws, ENFORCE them, and allow hunters to do their thing after background checks. It wasn't so long ago that Wal-Mart was under fire (Tom Selleck went on Rosie O'Donnell's crapfest show, and she attacked him for being an NRA member, which he responded to by gently reminding her of Wal-Mart's - a compay she did commercials for - role as a gun seller).

But their rules have stffiened. All 50 states should shape up. Gun control should not be a states' rights issue, if we nhad a strong, practical federal government in place. Gun laws that are different from state to state invite criminals to trake a short trip to get weapons. Of course, this federal government won't lift a finger to do something . . . . .

    Wait a minute . . . . . was he a foreign kid? a Non-American?

Where does that put the bellyaching about our violent society?

  7. Can I point out that you can't invade radical Islam?
    It's nonsense.

If you are one of the 32 families burying a loved one, it doesn't make a damn bit of difference who the shooter was. Remember that.

Same place the bellyaching was before. This problem existed 24 hours ago...we're talking about decades of violence, not just today's incident.

One presumes he didn't arrive here with the guns. There is no place on earth easier to get a handgun than the good ol' USA. Particularly Virginia.

You can't kill 32 people with a baseball bat.

If that is his site, the gun porn (photos of guns, not NSFW women) is very disturbing. Those aren't Saturday Night Specials he's photographing, those are high-end firearms costing $1,000s each. I just wonder where he got the money to purchase them.

  12. Some things don't add up for me. Brian Williams and NBC is reporting a 9 mm and a .20-caliber ... I'm not a gun expert but I know a .20 caliber is pretty much the weakest gun there is. I've heard of lots of people getting shot in the head with a .20 and surviving.

I'm surprised there were so many fatal shots, even if many were execution style. Here he is reloading and reloading and no one could stop him ...
