    and stay away from these:

No one, but no one I know hunts deer with an assault rifle. So, it's really not a valid argument to say, “you don't need assault rifles to hunt.” That's already a given. That's already in place.
You get a nice Remington or Winchester bolt action or semi-auto with some decent glass sitting on top of it, and at 100 yards you can put five rounds into an area that could be covered by a quarter.
Believe me, there are plenty of high school and college students who possess these types of firearms and have the ability to jus that.
If one of them ever goes off the deep end, well ...

I know most gun-rights people would answer this question by saying "That's not the point," but can anybody possibly conceive of a situation in everyday civilian life where having an AK-47 or similar firepower as opposed to an ordinary handgun, rifle or shotgun could mean the difference between life and death?
In other words, it's not a question of being armed vs. unarmed, but if you were armed but had lesser firepower than an AK-47 you'd be dead.
I have yet to hear a straight answer to this question from the NRA or its supporters. All I've ever heard is "That's not the point."

Uzis are the favored firearm of gang bangers and drug dealers, factions which likely are not NRA dues payers.

    Guess who helps supply them?

I'm so glad that they made that Lord of War movie, that was a good look into some of what goes on all over the world with gun running.

It's a lot easier to run guns when you have the law (2nd amendment) and an organization (NRA) behind you. :)

Armed with .38, Miss America 1944 stops intruder on her Ky. farm
    By The Associated Press
    Saturday, April 21, 2007

WAYNESBURG, Ky. — Miss America 1944 has a talent that likely has never appeared on a beauty pageant stage: She fired a handgun to shoot out a vehicle's tires and stop an intruder.
Venus Ramey, 82, confronted a man on her farm in south-central Kentucky last week after she saw her dog run into a storage building where thieves had previously made off with old farm equipment.

Ramey said the man told her he would leave. "I said, 'Oh, no you won't,' and I shot their tires so they couldn't leave," Ramey said.

She had to balance on her walker as she pulled out a snub-nosed .38-caliber handgun.

"I didn't even think twice. I just went and did it," she said. "If they'd even dared come close to me, they'd be 6 feet under by now."

I guess I'm a bit confused about what you are trying to convey here. Are you saying the NRA is responsible for arming bangers and druggies?

Just a warning: If this thread turns into more of "I know I am, but what are you?" and "I'm this, and you're that, and fuck your momma," well ... I'm just not going to have any problems locking it again. Learn to advance your argument without name-calling and knee-jerk polarizing or go back and study a little harder, because clearly, if all you have to contribute to this thread is anything but reasoned analysis, this discussion is better off without you.

P.S. As slow as my laptop is, I have no idea whose posts will immediately precede this one when it finally shows up on the thread, but if mine follows yours don't assume I am directing this at you. This is for all who dare enter this thread. I unlocked it because I think it's an important thread, but if it turns into more bullshit there's no reason to keep it going.

    Thanks.
