Let me know when a militia is formed and the need to avoid a suppressive government comes down to the civilians owning handguns.

As to the burglar scenario... The ONLY way your sleeping ass gets a jump on a fully awake individual whose eyes have already adjusted to darkness is if you setup your imaginary scenario to perfection.

There is no logic or common sense in anything you have described. You leave no room for the amount of time it would take you to account for sound you heard that awoke you out of bed, presumably the burglar. You account for no time that it would take you to locate the gun you have in the house, presuming that it isn't in a locked drawer to avoid young timmy from playfully blowing his own head off at the tender age of 7.

Nope, in your perfect scenario, the burglar is some newbie that never did this before, doesn't own a gun and stumbles through the house tripping over shit in such a way that you and only you, not your wife, not your kid, wakes up in perfect stealth, obtains the gun, loads, and your eyes adjust to the pitch blackness of the surroundings.

    Come on.

The right to bear arms is one thing. The right to take another's life is a different issue.

When my wife was in high school she was home by herself one night. A man tried to break in the front door of the house. She grabbed one of her dad's hunting rifles and the guy ran when he saw it. If he she doesn't have that gun she might not be here today.

    But we should outlaw guns.

    You're a fucking idiot.

Pastor, as somebody who used a shotgun to thwart a burgler (who was armed with a knife), I can assure you that it's not that complicated.

Breathlessly awaiting your response Pastor, you ignorant civil rights-violating piece of shit.

    There's no need for that.

While Pastor and I disagree about guns and which Auld Firm team to root for, he's a good guy and doesn't deserve that.

Or she could have grabbed a knife and hid.

You're right. The ONLY way for her to be alive is to have a gun.

Of course, the guy breaking into her house could have had a gun and been much better at using it. Thus, resulting in a horrendous fatality.

You keep trying to trump up these perfect situations and then say "Well you're an idiot." The reality is that the world isn't so black and white. Owning a gun didn't save her. The fact that the burglar didn't have one did.

Of course, here comes A_QB with the insults. Maybe you can grow up.

As to Inky, you could have used knife and any number of other weapons you had on hand in your house. As mentioned above, your thwarting of the burglar is entirely dependant upon the burglar not being equally armed. Had the burglar entered the home brandishing a pistol, things may not have been so positive.

Yeah, it's better hide and let the guy in the house so he can, at best, rob her home. Or do somethign much, much worse.

Much better than to, you know, pick up a gun a defend yourself. She had the guy dead to rights. She could have shot him but she didn't have to.

And by the way, it's not a horrendous tragedy if a burglar is shot and killed. It's justice. We have the right to defend our homes.

I guess you'd rather see your wife raped or killed than have her defend herself with a gun, huh? Bet she sleeps well at night knowing that.

How about we strictly regulate handguns - the way every other civilized country on earth does - and let the hunters and sportsmen and home-protectors keep their shotguns and rifles? Why conflate the two when it comes time to have this argument?

What about the woman who wants a handgun for protection.

Well, except for Pastor's wife. She's not allowed to have one.
