Someone better remember Sxy's post at SJ Award time...definitely a Post of the Year contender.

And Happy Bday to all who were a day late, and registered five years ago today. What took you so long?

Something to look forward to for my first Christmas on SportsJournalists.com: Secret Santa. I like giving more than receiving, but always do like surprises ;D ;D ;D

Xan, I still think you are the King of the Castle. It's not a dream. You make more people laugh than you realize. :)

OK ... but they'd better wear helmets and mouthguards. It may just be for fun but it's still hockey!

  7. i'll admit it, i didn't sign on until the Wally Mathews incident (which i guess was about 5 years ago)....but despite what seems like multiple job changes, cities (and countries), family changes, and deleting/starting new accounts here, this place has always provided a great source of info and entertainment--a toast is indeed in order

Thanks for the promo...already stocking up on xanax and lactaid. ('Darling, I wanted to talk to you about that website, with the sports people, I really love the sports people, you know I could have dated Chuck Tanner when he played for the Cubs, although Grandma would have put her head in the meat grinder with chopped liver...you girls have it so differently today, Catholics who know about Kosher Coke, is your Boom coming for Thanksgiving this year? I know you'll want your old room, I still keep the Partridge Family sheets on that twin bed, do you still love David Cassidy, dear? Maybe Boom could use a sleeping bag? Well, anyway, about that website, Lou went poking around, he seems to spend a lot of time there now, he goes by the name toots or boots, I can't remember, but if you see him, say hi! Will you be bringing cheesecake?')

In ode to SJ's B-day, I would like to share my top ten reasons this board is great:

    1) You knew this was at the top of the list, but the Post the Song you are Listening to thread. Best thing ever created. Music is a big part of my life so to be able to express my tastes is something I enjoy. Great way to pad your posts totals.

    2) The people: you all are the most interesting cats I have ever come across. Some of you have become my best buddies. Some of you and I may not agree on certain issues on the board, but it is always healthy to have good debate. I do respect and adore each and every one of you, while I may not always show it on the board all the time. Thank you for being you!

    3) Journalism Topics Only Board: this board gives out the best advice on issues and also fosters a great avenue for all of us to exchange thoughts on the journalism world and what we have experienced. This is something that a journalism classroom cannot give you no matter what.

    4) Journalism Jobs Only Board: if you need work or are looking for work, what a great way to network your needs. While I have been lucky enough to not have to find work this way, I know others who have said that if it weren't for this board, they would be unemployed. Also, it is interesting where the job market lies since I am in a vary small journalism market.

    5) All the youtube links, which bring some great stuff, especially the ones Xan sends me of the Commodores video Sail On so I can get my daily laughable thrill of seeing Lionel Ritchie constipated, which I firmly believe is from wearing those tight white ass pants. Also, Xan, the Feels Good Video which made my day another day.

    6) The Anything Goes Board: Boy, you can find the most interesting, riveting stuff on this board. Fun and frivolity comes full circle on this board. From dissing shows (and my love for David Annable, Michael Vartan and Enrique Murciano) and movies (my Joaquin Phoenix boycott and my desires to see Brad Pitt in skirts more often), to talking about everyday life (my apparent knowledge of Kama Sutra and Tantric acts and disclosing them while drunk on wine), every other discussion board in the world pales in comparison to this one.

    7) The Canadian SJ'ers: JR, HC, Huggy, JC, and yes, Flash even you! Also, anybody else who hasn't disclosed they are from our neck of the woods or I actually don't know that you are from Canada. You represent Canuckistans from all over the country and do it well. I know our Prime Minister Jean Poutine Stephen Harper would be proud of you. I know that I feel so privileged to be in the company of such great people.

    8) Networking: This board is a great way for people from all over the world to seek advice from others and also make connections that will help you professionally. Also, it hooked me up with all those hockey pools, and now a basketball one.

    9) Electronic Beer Drinking: The way I can have a Keith's beer with IJAG and Flash without having to be in their presence because of geographic limits. (and anyone else who cares to join us for one)

    10) You make me a better person with all the information you give me on the boards, in PM's and even more importantly the friendships and bonds we share (positive and negative). The fact that we can share information and experiences while having fun, laughs, tears and "hearts" is so great.

Long live SJ and here's to another five years (holding a Keith's beer up to toast this fine board)
