HBO's Boardwalk Empire

This looked like it would be a good show, but I hadn't watched at all until a couple of weeks ago. Then, thanks to HBO OnDemand, I consumed 10 episodes over the course of one week, so I was up-to-speed for Sunday.

It was weird watching an episode in real time, and I felt deprived by the inability to watch a few back-to-back. But I'm all in. Between the Sopranos, Wire and Boardwalk Empire, HBO has three alltime greats on its ledger. Of course, it helps that the network can be more graphic than broadcast TV (LOVED the scene featuring Lucy and the fed!!).

I thought Rome and Deadwood were better than Boardwalk Empire

And both went off the air before The Wire did.

Rome is one of the all time greats. I don't think it could have gone much past what it did.

Deadwood started out great but went down hill in season three IMO.

Carnivale was a favorite of mine, too. I wish they wouldn't have had whatever issues halted it. I would like to have seen some final explanations.

I'm looking forward to Game of Thrones. HBO had a biker drama in the works that sounded good, but I think Sons of Anarchy might have derailed that project.

I thought it was pretty obviously implied that his mother was doing that ...

His mother? Or the maid? I say the maid. When Jimmy came to visit, she tried to take the cookies with her, but Commodore told her to leave them, and she nervously put them back on the table.

Perhaps it was implied that Jimmy's mom and the maid were working together, but I missed that.

Not sure what incentive the maid would have to kill the Commodore. She'd be out of a job. Yeah, he treats her shabbily, but that was probably pretty standard for white-black, boss-employee relationships in 1920.

I took it that it was Jimmy's mom. He told her "do what you want" or something along those lines.

    That was my thought also.

No question it was Jimmy's mom, I don't see any mystery there. The Commodore knocked her up when she was 13 and now she's getting the payback for Jimmy (and assuming he'll take care of her).

Could have done without all the puke scenes related to this story line, however.

Just to threadjack for a minute - there's still talk of a possible Rome movie. Kevin McKidd talked about it and it sounds more promising than the once-upon-a-time Deadwood rumors.

Oh, and still, more Chalky, please.

For finale, we need to see Richard Harron use his mad marksman skills. The man in the mask is such a mensch...and stone-cold killer.
As pissy as he got about they Lysol, Nucky wuvs Margaret. They are so perfect for each other - I love how they each call the other out on their bullshit.
And watch out for Eli. If Nucky had a clue that the guy he's installing in Eli's place set up the casino robbery where Eli was shot...
And I want to see Van Alden get his just as badly as Phil Leotardo, Mr. W., or any other great HBO Sunday night villain.
