speaking of that shotgun wound for Manny, that was some sick shit to see one of the pellets get forced out of there from what looked like an infection.

At least that looked like a shotgun pellet that fell out of his shoulder when he used the match.

My dad was a police officer who was shot three times with a .22 pistol in the line of duty in 1971 (he survived and is still alive). One bullet passed through his right lung, one hit him in the shoulder and one hit him in the thigh. By 1978, the slug in his thigh had worked its way to the surface and my mom cut it out of him with a pocket knife. The bullet in his shoulder is still stuck inside the joint, because they didn't want to risk severing nerves and ligaments to get it out.

Greg LeMond won the Tour de France with 33 pieces of buckshot still inside him.

Between flashbacks to Jimmy's college days, his drunken dream sequences and Jimmy's heroin-induced hallucinations, it was pretty hard to figure out exactly what was supposed to be real and what wasn't.

Looks like Van Alden (who's been strangely subdued most of the season) and Nucky will suddenly become unlikely allies. Richard obviously will explode back on the scene soon in a big way.

A couple of fairly major plotlines seem to have just been left hanging in midair.

I was kind of expecting Jimmy to run into Fitzgerald during the Princeton flashbacks. For some reason the scene with Van Alden running away cracked me up.

Now that I think about it, Van Alden will probably team up with Jimmy AGAINST Nucky.

I think Jimmy kinda has to come back under Nucky's wing now that all this has gone down.
Van Alden doesn't have any choice to line up with Nucky's side.
You knew the whole Jimmy/his mom deal was coming. I'd just as soon not had it actually shown on camera (even though the actors aren't mother and son).
