    Wait, what's a VCR? ;)

I like this show as well; a lot of great characters who have their strengths and flaws. Need more Chalky, though.

I disagree. The Van Alden scene at the end completely jumped the line of plausibility for me.

Really? Didn't see it that way, altho I guess his entire character defies plausibility. Seems consistent with a man who whips himself while staring at a faded a photo of Mrs Schroeder, won't help his wife have a baby, chases bootleggers and other sinners but drinks and bangs slutty women....seems like the same guy who would drown a Jew in the name of Jesus.

I'm with those who really like this show. I haven't missed an episode. VCR doesn't work and was at Eagles-Giants game last week so waiting until Monday night to watch last week's episode was near torture. Pretty interesting stuff going on last night. Seems like the Commodore is going to be fine and may have recruited Jimmy to help get rid of Nucky. Something bad has to happen to Rothstein when he goes to Chicago right? Sick of Van Alden. Wouldn't mind seeing him get clipped.

Nothing too bad can happen to Rothstein. I'm all for creative license but completely altering the fate of a historical figure doesn't fly.

Rothstein gets shot during a poker game a few years down the line.

And the Boardwalk Empire producers have been careful not to monkey with history (that's why they changed Nucky's name, so they could do with him what they want). A prime example is how Meyer Lansky (who would go on to become the most-famous Jewish gangster in the country and would be the pattern for Hyman Roth in The Godfather Part II) was allowed to escape after Jimmy and Chalky killed the D'Allessio brother and his henchman.

i agree with ALL point on van alden. and i trust winter and his writers know the character has run its course and must be eliminated to retain its fabulous credibility.

as wonderful a character as he is, with the actor deserving of major props, i trust winter to know when a perfectly written and acted role has arrived at the end of the line. see: richie aprile and the line of tony soprano foils who came and went during the run of that show...

any famous fbi guy can easily step in to take over the role van alden has played.

Yeah, there is only so much license you can take with the real figures in the show: Rothstein, Lansky, Luciano, Abe Attell, Al Capone, Johnny Torrio, Big Jim Colosimo - who was actually shot and killed in his restaurant.

  10. Best HBO show since the wire by far

I watch for the one or two gratuitous sex scenes per show.

Damn, what an ep. So many loose ends to tie up. What does Jimmy do now that he knows the baby mama was gonna leave him for female lover? Does Jimmy do something to figure out who was poisoning his daddy? Where is Margaret? How does Van Alden explain the death of an agent in the woods? I love the actors playing Jimmy and Margaret. I think that guy playing Jimmy is gonna be a big star.
