    I don't know if I'd expect anything else. It wouldn't be in her best interest to look like the picture of health here.

    Why didn't she have insurance?

    "When COVID hit . . . after my divorce . . . my preexisting, I've had over 30 operations, orthopedic stuff . . . I couldn't afford it."

    I guess that settles that.

    If I give her the benefit of the doubt (shouldn't I?), then yeah, getting health insurance is rough. Without any employer contribution (which I've done as a partner in my firm, so no employee rate), health insurance for a family of 4 is close to $20k-30k per year.

    My partner (56 F) pays $1,100 a month for a mildly shitty plan on the exchange. A really shitty plan is $600 a month in my state.
