No one is gonna touch the people who have (and, again, I am ASSUMING these are the real people) posted here under real names, whether it be Michelle, or Jason Whitlock, or Jeff Pearlman, or Dave Kindred.

The less highly placed who have used their real names... those posts have had universally agreeable content (Katrina ... Rocky's demise ... ).

There is a real good fucking reason to not use your name for 99 percent of the rest of us.

I will agree with you that using your real name tends to skew toward more agreeable content.

Simply, I post as I do because I don't want my comments on these threads showing up on Google or whatever in a search for my name, but there's very little secret about who I am to most here anymore.

Honestly, I work for a pretty small daily and I don't want my ideas shot down in some circulation dick-swinging comparison. I dunno if that'd happen.

Plus, it seemed like all the cool kids were doing it. If anyone ever really wanted to know who I as, I'd tell them.

I'm not saying all big-timers have no reason to post anon.

    There's a reason I don't tell people I'm Peter King.

    As far as we know.

I'll have to assume that those who gripe about people who post under handles have never used or granted someone the cloak of anonymity in a journalistic context. That would, after all, be "cowardly" on someone's part, to the exclusion of any benefits or justification.

I never have. And until a story of Watergate-esque proportions finds me, I don't intend to.

Being as I am posting under my real name and am not a big-timer, I do like the fact that Johnny started a separate thread for this "anonymous" discussion so that we can shift the focus of this thread back to the sadness at hand down at the Herald.

After all, there are 175 former Herald employees now trying to figure out how to pick up the pieces and find another job.

Joe, I started a new thread on that topic to try to enable this one to return to the main topic, as depressing as it is.

"granting" anonymity would be cowardly for such people?

My brain probably isn't working right today, but indulge me.... what do you mean?
