i hate to ask, but, can they actually carry this story line at a high level for more than a coupla seasons? this is great stuff, no doubt, but, how long can we keep building to the NYC explosion with these kinds of quality episodes?

Yes, great episode. This is what the audience needs, and this is what Lost is lacking these days.

As for whether the show lasts, I think the sentiment seems to be that it's nearly run its course. I expect the season to end with a cliffhanger. Then I expect to see it wrapped up at the end of the fall season. They could stretch it an extra season but that's about it.

Or perhaps they find a new direction. I think it's a bit early to be writing the show's obituary when it's still on the way up.

outofplace - it'll be tough to get any better than it was tonight.

    Tonight's episode was excellent.

The way it's written, it just seems like there were a bunch of geek TV writers and comic book scholar-types WAITING for a show like this to come along. And now that it's here, they're just so beside themselves, and all these great, suppressed ideas are getting thrown out there with a flourish.

For me, I can't see the show losing momentum. Heroes always find new problems to solve, new enemies to fight. The key will obviously be to come up with a new menace. All it takes is for Isaac to paint something weird, and we're off.

I had fallen off on this show a bit, and was out of town for a while, causing my Tivo to tape over some old ones I hadn't seen yet.

Watched last week's and this week's tonight, and I'm back on. Love this show, and love Greg Grunberg.

This season could very easily be all about them discovering their powers and eventually saving New York. After that, it could easily turn into a sort of X-Men storyline as they face predjudice, mutants who aren't as nice, etc.

The saving NYC storyline can last only so long. But this show could easily morph in a thousand different directions.

I know I'm really steppin' out on a limb here, but it's safe to say P.Petrelli blows up when Nuke boy, who was with Parkman in the last episode, comes near him.

I don't think he needs Ted (Nuke boy) to be nearby to lose control. I think last night's episode shows how easily that particular power can get out of control if he tries to use it.

Did Ted survive the fire/explosion/meltdown or whatever it was last night?

I'm thinking that they stop New York from blowing up this season, but Sylar gets away with way too much power and an evil plan. That sets up the next arc of trying to stop Sylar, and like the comic books they can simultaneously develop the next super villain.

Kind of a silly argument. It was such a good episode that I can't imagine them toping it, so this show should start sucking any day now.

Personally, the writers and actors on this show have earned my faith in their ability to produce some great television for a long time to come.
