High school football press boxes

Boy this thread has gotten way off base but what the heck.......

The thing I've noticed about high school field hockey is that unless there's an artificial turf, it's practically impossible to do anything. They can never complete a pass because on a chewed up football field, the ball just bounces right over their sticks. I've seen games on turf that were actually pretty good because the ball wasn't bouncing everywhere. But on MOST high school grass fields ... forget about it. Like you said, it's set up to be too hard for them. The constant whistles are ridiculous and make it irritating to watch.

I prefer natural grass to turf for field hockey. It's so fast on the high school level (when they're not used to it) they're just hitting balls everywhere. You could get whiplash.

Field hockey is the hardest sport to score in. Period. You have this little circle you can score in and pretty much a gazillion girls can crowd in there and try to stop you.

Penalty corners are fun to watch. Coaches can think up really neat plays, and I love the sound of the ball hitting the board in the goal. There is no other sound like it.

But yeah, enough with the freaking whistles.

There is perhaps no game story in all of sports that's worse to write than a 0-0 field hockey game.

Every high school swim meet between the first one (when every decent swimmer qualifies for state in their events) and the state meet.

Is the a paper in the country that prints more than a score with goal scorers and goalies' names for JV field hockey?

Is there really no air conditioning in the Carrier Dome? don't they have concerts there in the summer?

I honestly don't know what the heating/cooling system is at the Dome, but I can't remember the last time there was a concert there. The last three I can recall are Billy Joel, The Boss and Pink Floyd and Floyd was when almost 15 years ago.

My wife's maiden name is the same as the governor of the state back when we were in high school. (Her mom also works for their congressman, so she had government plates until recently, and she got out of multiple speeding tickets due to the combination.) At her hoops games, the announcer would see her father and say, "Hey, it's Mr. XXX, the governor's brother" and he would stand, wave and sit down.
