I forget -- does Ted know that they did?

I knew when she tapped the shoulder it was her because of the large hands. If she turns out to be the mother, it would seemed rushed and as if the writers believed the show wasn't going to be renewed.

Yeah, remember he was pissed at Barney for like two episodes. It took Barney getting hit by a bus for Ted to forgive him.

I don't watch the show every week, but I do keep up with it as much as I can. But, didn't Ted already meet Stella to get the tattoo removed ? So he met her...again ?

Yeah, they broke up. And now he's bumped into her randomly on the street ... which will lead him to his future wife (not her).

The DVR scheduled recording says an old friend helps Ted find a job. So I bet the old friend is Stella, and the new job is going to have his wife there.

I still think we won't see the mom until the series finale. I don't think we will see Ted dating her during the show.

That's right -- the second kid has knocked out my short and long term memory.

The way that this episode was written, you wonder if they wrote this arc as a possible series finale.

I'm just glad that Robin was integral to getting him to go out for a walk - otherwise, old Ted would have had no need for starting the "story" with how he met Robin.

  10. 1. Very thankful for the plot progression. You can't be a fan of the show and tell me that last night's episode didn't rock. You might dislike the reveal (Stella's not the mom. Bays and the other guy are too good to take a cheap, crappy cop out like that). Last night was a great example of what is amazing about HIMYM. And, more importantly, it is a great example of why it isn't like all the crappy sitcoms on TV (I'm looking at you Men among many others).

    2. Here is an interview with Bays on EW: http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2009/05/himym-shocker-s.html
No spoilers. Bays just confirms that they were very careful with how they worded everything. And also says that revealing the mom in the series finale has always been the plan.

    3. I can pretty well bet this arc was NOT written as a potential series finale. The ratings have continued to rise this year and, with that huge syndication deal, CBS would be nuts to can the show now. My bet is that they will end up doing some sort of Lost-type deal here in the next few years so that Bay and Co. can plan the show. They almost have to if the plan is for the mother to be revealed in the series finale.

If you are in that much of a hurry to reach the end of a storyline, any storyline, this probably isn't the show for you.

Big fan of this show. Just stumbled upon this thread somehow. Leave it to SJ to overanalyze the joy out of it (I keed, I keed).

But seriously, my wife and I have been watching this show since, literally, the beginning. Never once have we bitched about things like "plot progression" or "character development" or whether a Regis appearance was "a little much."

We just think it's a funny show. For half an hour every week, it makes us laugh. End of story.

As a social experiment, I wonder how old the folks whining about plot progression and the like are. I was in college when Seinfeld was at its zenith, and I think that show colors all others for me. It changed the rules.

When we watched Seinfeld, we didn't sit there going, "Gee, I hope Jerry and Elaine get back together!" or "I thought that bit with George and the Frogger machine was a little much."

We just thought it was a funny half hour, appropos of nothing.

I kind of figure most of those in my generation are the same way. I'd be interested to find out.
