Well of course injuries are a concern. Of course Miller, being a young pitcher will likely have TJ in the next 2-3 years.

Again, it isn't just about how good Heyward is. It is the fact that Heyward is 7 WAR better than what the Cardinals got last year in RF. And they replace Jenkins with a really good reliever. And now they can replace Miller with a better pitcher who couldn't break the rotation.

It wasn't just his glove. There is offensive upside with Heyward. Perhaps another year with the facial guard (or if he is able to play without it) will help him take another step forward.

Regarding the Braves trading a bat, as I mentioned above, Olney said it wasn't just a baseball move. They were doing it because Heyward will be a free agent after 2015.

The Cardinals need offense but they could have gotten a better player than Heyward.
Does this deal even get made without Taveras' death?

    Pirates regress without Martin.

Yeah, but what are they supposed to do in the face of that absurdity? That really could be one of the dumbest contracts ever. Jays are going to start paying him $20M around his 35th birthday.

Cervelli is pretty good, but he always gets hurt.

What they need to do is reinvest elsewhere. So far, all they have done is add cheaper downgrades at catcher and starting pitcher.

Wasn't he healthy when he failed to even make the Yankees' major league roster in 2012?

That Stanton deal doesn't look so bad from either side; Stanton can opt out after 6 years during which M's pay him $100M+; thereafter he gets around $30M/yr which is likely to be fair mkt value. So M's get 6 yrs at a decent price while Stanton is in his prime and he gets a one sided option at the end.
