To be fair, Billy Butler can still have a pretty good year without hitting his weight.

Adam LaRoche to the White Sox for two years, $25 million. Assuming he will DH and play some first base with Abreu there. Getting time at DH could help keep LaRoche's back healthy. Also, moving to that park and the American League should give him a boost.

I mean, the market would have to balloon to the point where a 31-year-old player could command a 7-year deal at $35 million per for him to opt out, right?

This says (with Edes tagline) the Red Sox offered 5/95 for Sandoval and have little interest in going to six years, let alone seven.

If that's the case, and if the Giants have a chance by throwing in an extra $5M without adding years, I think he stays in S.F.

Just like A-Rod didn't opt out of his huge deal and get even more?

Cabrera JUST got a $248 million at age 30. Now add six years of economic boom to the game.

Why wouldn't he opt out and get another 7 year deal for $40 million per?

You are assuming his play maintains his value or increases it. What if it doesn't? That's why this is a much bigger risk for the Marlins

Makes sense. I really thought the Red Sox would go six years.

I could be wrong, but my guess is the Sox would rather be principled than get a good player.

Hanley Ramirez to the Red Sox for 5 years, $90 million, per Rosenthal:

Hanley could play short I guess, so this doesn't necessarily preclude them from signing Sandoval.

They'd more likely move him to the outfield if they sign Sandoval, I'm guessing. Their needs remain acute out there, especially if they're shopping Cespedes for the pitcher they really need.

Heyman reporting Sandoval to Boston too.

In that park, with David Ortiz as a teammate, he'll pop 30 HRs next year.
