“@Ken_Rosenthal: Sources: #Orioles GM Dan Duquette a top candidate to be #BlueJays’ president. Move would be a promotion. Difficult for O’s to stand in way.”

Ownership are not happy with Paul Beeston from what I gather.

Another busy winter for the Jays.

At some point they're going to have to win something.

I agree with Keith Law that this is too much money for a failed starter.
You want a LOOGY? Try grooming one.

    Why?

You've got teams with insane piles of money from their TV deals, and the CBA and circumstances have left them with nothing to spend it on. Why not give $9m to a lefty reliever (who righties hit .142/252/202 off of last year, some loogy)? What else are you going to spend it on?

    $9m is the new $4m.

It also gives them some leverage with David Robertson, who they apparently still want to sign. Either they re-sign their closer or they now have two quality options to replace him with.

Or Beeston's ready to retire, or has had enough of reporting to Keith Pelley.

Duquette feels insanely underrated to me as a baseball exec. He doesn't have the hipster cool appeal of Friedman or Beane or Epstein, but everywhere he goes, good baseball teams pop up.

The Yankees have a ton of garbage on that roster. Miller is a luxury item.

A luxury they can afford. So why not?

Yes, it's cute that the Yankees and Red Sox can just willy-billy blow up teams after one or two bad years. Boston shits its pants and goes out and buys a whole new infield.
    Must be nice.

Man, the Royals and Pirates never make the playoffs anymore.

    Completely different argument.
