This is a great thread. Thx to all for your insight.
Clear now that The Yankees did not think that Robertson was not
the next Rivera. As good a pitcher was he was he did seem to be
    a bit injury prone.

No sense throwing money at closers except maybe Kimbrel or Chapman.

Betances will give them 90 percent of Robertson at 1/20th the price.

Betances looks like he might be a great late inning reliever/closer. But, I would have loved to have them both.

The Yankees starting pitching isn't so hot, so the shorter you can make the game, with a dominant bullpen, the better. And, if they were to somehow make the playoffs, the bullpen becomes even more important.

Plus, I guess I'm just surprised. I liked Robertson. He was good, and I never thought of him as someone who the Yankees would let walk away because of price.

While nobody could be Rivera, and the pressure was tremendous, Robertson did a terrific job last year. The question, though, is whether he could sustain it, as, until prior to this year, he always seemed like a pitcher who kept pitching his way into trouble before having to escape.

Covered Robertson in college. Even back then he could be shaky at times.

His fastball is pretty straight, which means it gets hit a long way when he doesn't spot it correctly.

I read that Dan Uggla wants to make a comeback. I mean, the Nats DO need a second baseman.....

Seriously, though, is anything going down today or what?

Good job by Susan Slusser of the board, on this program. Great insight into the crazy A's.

This is also why they signed Miller, who gives them two outstanding relievers at the end of the game. I'm also sure they are far from done, which is why Xan's post was comical.

Not that bad. Anyone remember his stint in San Francisco?

The Athletics are looking very much like an auto being sold for parts.
