As did I. And selfishly, I'm hoping Giolito opens 2015 in the 'Burg.

The Red Sox also signed Justin Masterson.

The Tigers got a potential replacement for Porcello in the rotation by trading Eugenio Suarez and a prospect to the Reds for Alfredo Simon.

So far, it's a rotation of "OK to pretty good at their best" starters. Sandoval had better hit.

Scherzer to the Yankees makes too much sense not to happen.

Definitely. He's going to get Kershaw-level money and there are only a handful of teams willing to pay. The Giants aren't one of them.

I remember seeing in an interview that his dream was to play for the Cardinals.
I would be willing to accept that if St. Louis didn't already have enough pitching.
I don't know why the Giants don't raid the NPB on an annual basis.
They have enough money for the posting system.

I heard Michael Kay on the radio yesterday arguing against the idea of the Yankees signing Scherzer. Basically, his argument was that Scherzer is more of a want than a need because the offense is a mess and the pitching wasn't the team's main problem even with the injuries they suffered in 2014.

I don't agree, but it did make me think that perhaps Kay knows something and he is laying the groundwork to defend the Yankees if they fail to spend big money this offseason.

Their starting pitching was hanging on by a thread by the end of the season. Not much of a strength, especially when each starter is either old, hurt, or both.

Signing Scherzer, need or no, is just such a Yankee thing to do.

They sure do. The Giants aren't cheap. They has the seventh largest payroll in 2014. But they could spend more. They've got plenty of money.

I'm trying to remember the last long-term free agent who panned out for the Giants. I think it was Bonds. Just not their thing.
