Thing about Strasburg, his career is paralleling that of Smarjdzia, great peripherals but slightly disappointing results. I am probably getting caught up in the discounted wins category but for as dominant as Strasburg has been at times (his debut was electric); he's yet to have a dominant King Felix stretch, something that seemed to be a foregone conclusion. So IMHO, there's a lot of hype (and do doubt promise) to Strasburg but he's not there yet. (Could it be he's/Boras is timing his greatness for after his first contract expires?)

That's probably it. His agent is telling him to pitch 200+ innings and be good, really good, sometimes bordering on great, but not quite great yet.

He is a very skilled man to be able to thread that needle.

I want to jump off a bridge after reading your posts sometimes. Most times. Every time actually.

    Go ahead, jump.

I put out an opinion, you're free to ignore.

Guy is 43-30 with a career 3.02 and a WHIP of 1.089; pretty good; the SO/W of 4.5 is outstanding.

As for threading the needle, I was just inquiring. Did I think he could do that? Not really.

It could be. It also could be that Santa and the Easter Bunny are real as well.

Some dummy from Pittsburgh tweeted that Strasburg was "very much available" and wanted to leave. That was pretty quickly debunked.

The rest of it is speculation as to how the Nats could get a bigger haul IF they traded Strasburg instead of Zimmermann.

You can never have too much pitching. The Nats would be wise to hang on to all six.

This has probably been discussed lately so apology in advance but is Shields still looking for something in the $100 million for five years range?

Shields is on the verge of becoming another Kyle Lohse or Ervin Santana. He might not get a job until spring training.

If he was smart, he'd wait until somebody's ace pops a UCL in late February and name his price.

Speaking of Shields, he's the latest battleground in the Nerd Wars. Dave Stewart told him to come and play for a "true baseball team" in Arizona, not one of those run by spreadsheet jockeys.

On the other side, championing the sabers, is ... Don Mattingly?
