I would expect the Cardinals will work in some incentives — nothing that will get him close to the $15 million, though — that could raise his compensation by a couple million at least. I mean, why not? They're saving a ton on the terms of his deal, so a few extra million won't break the bank or prevent them from addressing needs, such as a right-handed power bat for the bench, this offseason. Hell, they gave Mark Ellis $5 million this past season to sit the bench.

Has anyone ever seen a bigger year-to-year pay cut than $15m? Other than a player simply being cut for financial reasons, I mean?

We've got our first trade. Blue Jays deal Adam Lind to the Brewers for RHP Marco Estrada:

Will the Red Sox make an attempt to re-sign Lester?

An attempt, but it won't be the highest offer.

Normally I'm not a huge fan of televised press conferences, but this Maddon presser is pre-empting Chris Russo's show. So there's a silver lining.

High Heat is the worst sports show on television. Incredible they run that dreck in the middle of the day.

Yeah, and some people think Around the Horn is a yelling show.

High Heat was a FANTASTIC computer game, though.
