  1. I could really see the Cubs making a run for Schilling.

If nothing else, I think the thought of helping them finally win a Series after already doing it for the Sawx would appeal to his gigantic ego.

    Thoughts?

Some guys with half of Schilling's talent have even bigger egos.

Schilling is one of the greats, IMHO.

The more I think about the A-Rod situation, I don't see how it makes any sense for any team interested besides the Yankees.

When he was age 26, and the economics of baseball were just beginning to blossom to where they are now, you could probably make the case that Rodriguez was worth a 10-year contract worth $250 million.

But it makes absolutely no sense for a team to give him that contract, or the ridiculous 10-year, $300 million one Boras is clearly going for now.

    None.

Unless Alex hooks himself up with the next Greg Anderson and Victor Conte, it's all diminishing returns from this point on. Maybe he has another huge season like this one, but in all likeliehood, he'll never be as good as he was this season. And in a few years, the Dodgers or Angels or Mets or Tigers will be paying $30 million a year to a 37-year-old third baseman who is a liability in the field and who hits .280 with 29 HRs. At best. And did we mention he's kind of a clubhouse cancer?

Still, you know someone will do it, because these moves never seem to backfire on Boras, but it just seems like such a stupid financial decision considering his age. For anyone. If I were a Mets fan or a Dodgers fan, I'd be praying my team wasn't this stupid. Five years ago? Go for it. But he's 31 years old. A lot of people in our business are talking about this like he's 25 years old and the best defensive shortstop in the game, so he'll be able to name his price because someone will eventually pay it. But he's not that player anymore.

If he gets that kind of deal -- and I can't imagine him getting a worse deal that what the Yankees offered -- the last few years of that contract, when he's 39, 40 and 41, are going to be BRUTAL. And the home run record isn't going to bring in enough people in to offset the last $90-100 million. At that point the HR record will be somewhere between six and eight years old. Oh, the goosebumps!

Even though Boston can basically print money these days, I don't see any way they get involved here. It would run counter to everything Theo and Co. claim they stand for. If Alex would sign a 5-year deal for $150 million, and I was John Henry, I'd pay it in a second. I might even go six years, $180 million, just to fuck with the Yankees, also knowing I could raise ticket prices to ridiculous levels (if needed) and people would still pay them.

But talk of a seven, eight, nine or 10 year deal is lunacy. Freaking lunacy. Yet that's what Boras thinks he'll get. And he hasn't really been proven wrong yet.

BorASS has never been into it for anyone or anything but himself. He is the worst cancer in baseball, and nobody else even comes close.

The piece of shit had the nerve to upstage the BoSox title win, for Chrissakes.

I have to relay this doozie I heard from an apparently stoned-out-of-his-gourd co-worker at the gym I work in. This dude is a rabid Red Sox fan, so when I see him, I congratulate him on his team winning the World Series. All of a sudden, he goes into this wild tangent about how Boston will repeat. Brace yourselves, this is something even the SoSH would think is unrealistic (this theory is his & not mine):

First, the Sox will let Lowell, Wakefield & Schilling walk, then trade away Julio Lugo & Coco Crisp (for what & to who, I don't know), opening up a spot for Jacoby Ellsbury to start at center. The first big move is they sign A-Rod for four years, $160 million ($40 mil per) to play shortstop. Next, Youkilis moves across the diamond to play third and Papi plays around 45-80 games at first. Who's going to DH then? Barry Lamar Bonds, for one year and $13 million. Finally, to fill out a rotation of Beckett, Matsuzaka, Lester & Buchholz (the #5 guy, according to him), the Red Sox put together a package for Dontrelle Willis. The 2008 opening day lineup & rotation are as follows:

    1. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
    2. Alex Rodriguez, SS
    3. David Ortiz, 1B
    4. Manny Ramirez, LF
    5. Barry Bonds, DH
    6. Kevin Youkilis, 3B
    7. Jason Varitek, C
    8. Nancy J.D. Drew, RF
    9. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF

    SP1 - Josh Beckett
    SP2 - Daisuke Matsuzaka
    SP3 - Jon Lester
    SP4 - Dontrelle Willis
    SP5 - Clay Buchholz

Anyone else think this dude is bat-shit crazy, or is it just me?

Hell, why doesn't he have them sign Santana and Hunter, too?

In fact, why doesn't he just have Boston purchase North America and declare themselves supreme rulers for life?
