My buddy Mike sent me a note today saying that the Red Sox fan who sits next to him was forwarding a photo-shopped picture of Johan Santana in a Boston cap. I sent him back the following message to pass along for me. Might as well share it with you all:

Tell him this: It's a story to which many can relate.

Imagine being a normal high school kid. Not the coolest, but you have your moments. Not the funniest or the most athletic or most popular, but you're OK with that -- in fact, that might be your best quality. You take life as you find it. Deep down, you're just a good guy.

And you start dating a good looking girl your sophomore year. Date her for three years, and damned if she doesn't get hotter and hotter. Pretty smart, too. Hell of a girl. By the time you're a senior, she's drop-dead freaking gorgeous. A 10.

And, come senior year, you take her to the big dance, and damned if people don't start walking up to you and hitting on her right in front of you. They're flashing wads of cash, promising her everything under the sun. And they're acting like you're not even there. Won't even make eye contact with you. You're standing there in your rented tux with your cheap cologne reeking of fail and staring at your cheap, cheap shoes.

Imagine you're that guy. You might take it in stride: After all, you're a good guy, and deep down, you know there will be other girls.

But you might climb up to the top of the bleachers, assemble a high-powered rifle and start shooting every greedy, covetous, slimeball asshole in the room.

    You might do that.

    *sigh*

If only there had been women as easy pretty as you at my HS dances, IJAG, I might not be so bitter.

If I were the Yanks, I think 7 years for 280 million sounds about right for ARod. Maybe eight for 320.

ARod hits 35 out for the next seven years gives him 763 for his career. That is one more than he needs.

Having a guy chase the HR record in the new Yankee stadium with a loaded young pitching staff is priceless. The Yanks will make money off ARod.

Oh, the Yanks are getting 80 new, enclosed sources of income when that park opens to add to the 12 they already have.

You're making a mighty big assumption that the Yankees will have a loaded young pitching staff. The Yankees are dangerously close to descending to levels not seen since CBS owned the team.

I don't understand. I thought it was already agreed upon that Joba Chamberlin would have 30 victories next year and Derek Jeter would hand over his captaincy in a ceremony where Joba would walk across the East River to recieve it.

Am I the only one relieved that IJAG seems to have talked Zeke down? :)

The Yankees had A-Rod under contract for 3 years at $27 mill per if he didn't opt out. They were prepared to offer him a 5 year extensin for about $150 mill....$231 mill total over 8 years.
A-Rod and Bor-Ass chose to opt out before ever hearing a formal offer from the Yankees. Some of the Yankee brass were "notified" of the opt out by watching FOX during Game 4.
There are many very pissed off people in the Yankees organization right now and, even before Bor-Ass' blunder last Sunday, they had said they would not negotiate with A-Rod if he opted out.
To quote Hank Steinbrenner "We're finished."

Why do you think the Yankees would then turned around and offer him $40 mill a year?
A-Rod is finished in the Bronx. Why do you find this hard to understand?
