Pena, Milledge, Kearns is a fairly young outfield (25, 23, 28, I think) with some potential.
Of course, this is a team that re-signed Mike Bacsik. So there's still the arms thing to solve.

Potential has been Pena's nickname since he broke into the majors. If he learns to cut down on his Ks and not swing for the tops of stadiums, he could develop into a good power hitter.

Those of you trying to rate Schneider based on his offensive stats are completely missing the point or playing too much fantasy baseball. There are very few catchers with Schneider's combination of defensive and leadership ability. Maybe you'd be happy if the Mets got Mike Piazza back?

The Mets don't need Schneider! They've got Johnny Estrada!

It's hard to evaluate the trade now. I think it's a trade that both the Mets and the Nats had the incentive to make; the Mets needed a defensive catcher and the Nats needed and still need to acquire all the talent they can.

Depending on what happens with Milledge, the trade will eventually look tilted to one side or another, but even then, I imagine both sides would say that the trade made sense at the time.

Now that the Mets have Schneider and Estrada, do they get rid of Castro? I think he could be a good backup somewhere else.

We'll get what's his name to analyze it in two years when he's done with the draft.

The Mets supposedly will not offer Estrada arbitration and just let him go.
The fact that they got rid of Mota and his contract in the Estrada deal is addition by subtraction.
