If you're going to give up those prospects, you better be willing to shell out the cash to keep Willis and Cabrera. I don't think the Tigers have any intention of letting them slip away. And if the Tigers are on the verge of winning, I see no reason why they don't want to come back to Detroit -- especially with the young nucleus.

And if you were a pitcher, is there anyone you'd rather have catch you than Pudge?

Why let Maggs go? If he's healthy, Ordonez is better than most anyone else in that league with the stick.

Who cares? There is no salary cap in baseball. The Tigers are swimming in money, money is spewing out their ears, they played to about 90 percent capacity in 2006, about 98% in 2007, and will play to about 105% capacity in 2008. They have enough money to re-sign Maggs, Sheffield, Pudge, Willis, Cabrera, Verlander, Bonderman and anybody else they feel like.

Detroit will have some kind of lineup this season.

Couldn't agree with that statement any more.

Sheffield is signed through '09 and Ordonez has club options in '10 and '11 ($15 million).

And I would hope the Tigers wouldn't let Cabrera or Willis go.

Who does Leyland use at DH? Sheff? Maggs? Cabrera?

Probably Sheffield. I thought the idea with Cabrera was to have him play third base.

  10. No way Cabrera is the DH. I don't care if he has a bigger waistline than Prop Joe, you don't trade all your best prospects for a third baseman in his 20s and immediately put him at DH.

    Easy. Sheffield.

And Cabrera may play in LF. They still have Inge at 3B.

I'd imagine they'd keep Cabrera at third. I expect they might try to trade Inge now.
