Oooh, good point. Unless they can unload Inge on someone. Kind of makes acquiring the Junk pointless, doesn't it?

There is certainly a market for third baseman however, so they may find teams willing to take Inge on.

  3. Inge can play several different positions too, which enhances his potential value.

Supposedly he's getting in better shape.

Inge's contract may make it harder to deal him. He's due to make $6.2, $6.3 and 6.6 million the next three years.

I think it was on the ESPN blog where I read while the Tigers would probably try to move Inge, they would indeed probably have to eat some of his salary.

Fans on the Indians' MLB forum are already conceding the AL Central to the Tigers.

Way too early to even start thinking about that.

    - We were all saying the same things about the Tigers last year, and even half way into this year.

    - This is Schilling II. A team demands an unreasonable package from the Yankees, and then takes far less from the Red Sox. I'm not sure why, and I'm less sure why Twins fas would be happy to see them do that, but I think you are all actually UNDERestimating the Sox rotation. Last year, they paid up for Matsuzka because they thought he was a true ace. I'm not yet convinced they were wrong - it took Beckett a year too.

    - It's just wrong to say that they stole Beckett, when they gave up one of the best players left in the NL. BTW, who is the best position player in the NL west? Holliday? Is Tulowitzki 2nd? Who is the 2nd best in the Central? I guess Soriano. That league is no better than the NBA East, and far worse than the NFC.

I don't see how this Red Sox deal is FAR less than what they asked of the Yankees. You guys are drastically overrating Melky and underrating Crisp. Let's see what the final deal is before we make final declarations.

Two questions re: the Tigers-Marlins deal.

    1) If the Tigers play Cabrera at 3B, is there a worse defensive left side of the infield in the MLB next year?

    2) Do the Angels now get into the Johan sweepstakes with the players they were considering sending to the Marlins?

One thing I know is, at some point, the Marlins will make out better in the Miller-for-Willis part of this deal.

Cabrera may eventually tip the overall deal to the Tigers' side. But Andrew Miller is a front-of-the-rotation starter for quite a while, with fewer ups and downs than Dontrelle.

Miller started strong when he first came up, then got worked around like a rag doll for a couple of months, eventually knocking him out of the rotation. Unless Willis has some unknown physical problem, he should be fine for the foreseeable future -- he turns 26 during spring training.

The fact that Willis and Cabrera are 25 and 24 (as of today) makes this a great deal for the Tigers -- finally they quit obsessing over guys in their late 30s and early 40s and got some guys who reasonably should be around for a few years.

Willis may be young, but the career trend is not promising.

And it is way too early to determine much about Miller. The Tigers definitely brought him up too soon and he is still only 22.
