It isn't that unusual of a sequence in a regular-season pattern -- try a different play on second down and then go bread-and-butter on third down.

But with what that team is, the play itself was not a good call.

Also the Patriots had scouted and prepared for it exceptionally well -- at least by what they're saying now, in addition to Butler's reaction, they all knew what was coming. I wonder if the Seahawks have a tendency in that situation that the Pats' quality-control guys had discovered.

BTW, the Pats' victory parade in downtown Boston has been postponed until Wednesday. Still snowing and the forecast for tomorrow is temperatures around 10 with much wind. The players may have refused to attend. I'm kind of surprised any of them want to fly back from Phoenix.

By tomorrow I expect TMZ to produce a picture of Gronk in Vegas with the entire female cast of Cirque du Soleil, everybody naked.

I didn't see this discussed, but my son asked me what I think: Was this the best SB ever? I think it's got to be this or Rams-Titans. I don't think the Giants-Pats ones measure up, but I can understand those who do. I don't mean make the mistake of assuming that history started when I started paying attention, but they didn't have many good games for the first 30 or so years until Montana over Boomer.

That Steelers-Cardinals game was pretty damn good. Also the Broncos beating the Packers to end the NFC win streak.

    Somewhat along those lines:
The Conspiracy Theory Surrounding The Seahawks’ Last Play | The Nation

It wouldn't surprise me if this is a hot topic among talk radio folks in Seattle today.

You run on 2nd down. You either score or get stuffed and call TO.

21-23 seconds left, assuming for this argument that you got stuffed.

On the sideline, you have two options: the more reasonable is you pass on third down, some sort of rollout most likely, and tell Wilson that he's throwing into the end zone or the third row of seats, but whatever he does, the clock must stop. Assuming an incompletion here, youre looking at 4th and goal from 4 feet out and maybe 10 seconds. You choose whatever of your hundreds of plays, run or pass, youre most confidant can get you those 4 feet. So basically, here ya go Marshawn, win us the super bowl. Really, you can run or pass, doesnt matter, bc this is the last play no matter what happens. But for Seattle, likely a run.

The second, slightly riskier option, is to call 2 plays during the timeout, and run it again on third. If youre stuffed again, youve already got your next play ready and everyone already knows it. You hustle back and snap the ball.

One thing you absolutely do not do under any circumstance is throw a slant into the teeth of the defense on 2nd down and 4 feet.

I still cant wrap my mind around that.

    You are underestimating him.

He actually makes me like the Patriots to some degree.

Still reading but the Twitter line is funny.

"In the stunning aftermath, after that unfathomable decision, conspiracy theories sprouted like Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors. I'm not talking about Twitter-theories from deep-thinking eggs ... "
