As of 10 minutes ago, someone close to the situation said it appears NOTHING may happen. Higher ups are just going to weather the storm.

To be fair, the only storm that I've noticed has been here.

The National Association of Black Journalists would beg to differ.

And I wouldn't tell you no one else has said anything. But none of my friends in Baltimore have mentioned it or anything like that. Anecdotally, HERE is the only place I've heard about it.

I can't speak for your friends. I'm only saying what is going on.

I know the numbers of journalists of color remain quite low. Anybody know what percentage of journalists of color are copy editors?

    Wow.

I'm in my late 20s and I knew exactly what the term meant. I'm also sort of surprised that many of you had no clue what it meant.

I think a few years ago, some people in Compton wanted to change the nickname but were voted down. I met a woman alum of Compton High who proudly wore a T-shirt from a class reunion that said: "Always a 'babe."

and this, in all sincerity, is progress. I wouldn't apologize for not identifying an old racial epithet.
I remember once referring to a Jewish colleague as a "hymie" because he was being cheap on a bill. I had no idea it was slur

Regarding the second epithet in Baltimore ...

I can't believe some middle-aged (white?) woman would use that term to describe Journey. It's friggin' Journey. C'mon.

"Niggardly" in no way, shape or form means anything remotely racial, it merely sounds like something that does. Man, read some Faulkner.
