How diverse is your area?

Not diverse at all. It's North Idaho.

Unfortunately, diversity around here means half the people believe the federal government should be dissolved, and the other half think it's OK for the feds to build roads and have a military.

I will say it's better than it was 20 years ago ... quite a few people actually move here for the beautiful scenery and recreational opportunities now, not just for the absence of black people and liberals.

I'll add this: I grew up in the Chicago area, which was very diverse but also very segregated. Everything — schools, types of businesses, and of course police protection — was totally about the racial makeup of your neighborhood.

Where I live: Mostly white, but there is some mix (Well-off, but skewed, because there is no real low end).
Where I work: Mostly black, but there is some mix (Not well off, but skewed, because there is no real high end).

Where I live, its about 80% white, 10% Asian, then some Hispanic and 2% black. Unfortunately, most importantly its not very economically diverse. Affluent bubble.

My first grade school (during busing) was about 33% white/black/Asian. Then I moved out to a suburb where it was 80 white, 19% Hispanic, and the rest asian & black (not much). However, that was a working class suburb when union factory jobs were plentiful and we had a dirt oval track for Friday night racing.

I don't have the exact numbers, but I'm guessing a very high percentage, like 80-90 percent, of the Jewish population of New York State is concentrated in New York City.

    0.6 percent Russian. 99.4 percent non-Russian.

    Not diverse at all. :(

3 places...ct-white, sc-white, vt-white...yikes! not white by choice but circumstance. I have very few non whites, and a gay couple! I have lived near plenty of "white trash" in my life.

Is white and a lighter shade of white considered diverse?

I live in a favorite test market because of the representative demographics. Depending on your definition of diversity, I guess it is.

I didn't look up the official numbers. But I'd guess New York City is pretty high on the diversity scale.
Grew up with zero diversity. Unless White and Whiter are separate groups.
