We don't see him on the show that much, but I thought they were portrayed as having been very close. Sure, I buy Ted being best man first, but I would think James would be next in line from the way their relationship has been portrayed on the show.

Obviously that all was a ruse to get Ted to be more apologetic and to get him back a little.

Seemed like it. I was just wondering about the bit about Barney and James. though you tend to remember the details on this show better than most.

I think James is still diving on the grenade of distracting all the old relatives, so he probably missed out on a lot.

I loved the Ted-Lily-Marshall B-plot this week. I disliked the main plot except for a few gags and Frances Conroy's fantasticness. I'm excited for her war with Robin.

Did they really get Katie Holmes back in the slutty pumpkin outfit?

It sure looked like her and the musical cue helped as well.

    It did look like her.

Otherwise, another meh episode for me. The Marshall in the car stuff is just stupid at this point.

THANK YOU. I was trying to convince my friend that that was the Slutty Pumpkin but she didn't believe me!

But if that WAS the Slutty Pumpkin, why wasn't Ted in his Hanging Chad outfit? That was the only thing I couldn't figure out.

I think it's possible that they shot some additional scenes with Katie Holmes to hold out until they needed them, knowing where they were going with this story.

Even though Ted can kind of be a douchebag sometimes, he does make a pretty decent friend sometimes. Ordering the pizza to be delivered for Marshall was awesome. Loved Marshall's soliloquy about pizza.

So in the past few days I've watched all of Season 8, which just got released on Netflix last week, and caught up on Season 9. HIMYM is much better when you watch it in a marathon-viewing session.
I liked Season 8 and am liking what we've seen so far of Season 9 but am I the only one that just wants Ted to meet the damn mother already?
I mean, I know I've felt that way for four years but it's really annoying that, in all liklihood, we're going to spend nine years getting to know Ted and he's going to meet the person the show's all about and then ... it's over?
I want to get to know this mother character on the same level we know the other characters or, at the least, as much as we know some of the other people Ted has dated.
Seems dumb to me that we'd know more about Stella and other girls than we do about the person who allegedly inspired this whole thing.

We're going to get to know The Mother quite a bit before Ted meets her. I wouldn't be surprised if she gets more screen time than Stella or Victoria cumulatively.

I thought there would be scenes with her peppered in through the whole season as she meets the others in the group. So far there was her and Lily on the train and other than that, nada.

It'd be quite unrealistic for her to be in the past two episodes. They could have, I suppose, made her the girl Robin hits on at the bar instead of being some hockey-loving Asian chick.

But yeah, I think they're better off getting The Mother involved extensively in five or six episodes than as a side act in 15.
