Tonight's ep might have been the best in years.

Not sure I'd go that far and it seems a bit too convenient for that to be the way Barney finally decided to focus on being with Robin, but it was pretty good.

It almost seems the show runners have a bright and clear storyline in their heads and are executing it.

But that can't be, keyboard warriors exclaimed! Inexperienced novices are always better at everything they've never done. so why wouldn't they be better at producing, writing and directing a network television show, I ask sarcastically.

I did appreciate Dr. Tim Watley, D.D.S., with the baseball that Lily took from him a few seasons back.

That was an A+ episode. Ted and Marshall rabidly cheering for the Generals is going in the pantheon of my all-time favorite HIMYM gags.

Next time the Globetrotters are in Tulsa, I'm going as a Generals fan for sure.

I think the season has been pretty meh this far. The humor isn't as sharp as it once was and the conflicts seem less whimsical and increasingly contrived.

That said, this was one of the better episodes in years. That the mom was supposedly the reason Barney made a final play for Robin, thus forcing Ted to move on and be open to the possibility of meeting her was a nice connective thread.

I could imagine after this part of the story Ted's kids looked at him and said, "So what you're telling us is you were still hot for Aunt Robin until Mom told Uncle Barney to go after him? Mom's your consolation prize for losing the Aunt Robin sweepstakes? Wow, thanks for ruining the notion of love for us forever. Let's just go to Mom's funeral and get this over with before you ruin our memories of you two together any more."
