Perhaps, but that look on his face watching Robin and Barney at the end? That just adds to my suspicion that he's going to do something way out of line at the wedding and he's going to be on the outs with the crew when he goes to that train station and meets the mother.

I was wondering if that was the same baseball as well.

And OOP, I agree. Why else would he be at the train station, alone, in the rain? At the very least, wouldn't Marshall and Lily be with him to go back to the city?

I loved the part where they're at the Globetrotters game.

The cool part is they still have like 15 episodes to answer those questions. And last night showed me a commitment and capacity to do that and do that satisfyingly.

I am not sure that Ted is going to do something insane at the wedding. There was the flash-forward scene from last season that shows Robin and her dad dancing, while Ted chills at the bar and notices the Mother playing in the band. I'm not sure that Ted would make it to the reception if he did something crazy at the wedding.

But who knows? Maybe he makes an insane proclamation of love during Robin and Ted's one-on-one time in her dressing room that they flashed forward to a while ago. Maybe he makes an inappropriate toast at the reception and gets booted. You can't rule anything out with Ted.

I will say this... They hit a grand slam with the actress they picked to be the mother. She's awesome.

I just watched this week's episode and I don't know what you're all talking about. That show was the perfect example of why this season sucks. It went back to something that has already been decided just to beat us over the head about WHY it was decided.
I loved the scenes with the Generals game and I loved all of Barney's escapades but this show should have been aired last year. At this point, do we really need ANOTHER episode that says "Kids, this is why I didn't end up with Aunt Robin."
I enjoyed seeing the mother meet Barney but I can't believe they're wasting this much time spinning their wheels. If this wasn't the last season I'd probably tune out.

How was that "spinning the wheels"? Ithink at this stage if you didn't like last episode, you have your mind made up and won't enjoy anything in this season.

It was spinning the wheels because the mother was playing the role of Lily in the same "Barney is really just a scared little boy looking for true love" conversation which the have done very effectively in the past.

And the mother really needs to have a sandwich or two.

That is quite literally the entire premise of the show.

Well played but not exactly what I meant. I meant that this show has already given us the build up to, the delivery of and the aftermath of Barney's ploy to get Robin. It was a good chunk of last season's narrative. Did we really need to see a shoehorned moment that alleges the mother is really the one who got this whole thing started?
At this point, I expect to see standalone episodes centered on the fact that the mother was the one who, back in college, told Lilly she should go talk to Marshal and she was also the one who told Robin to move to New York.
Hell, why we're at it, maybe the mother is the one who caused Barney's family to break up, broke up Barney's brother's marriage and convinced the GNB executives to let Ted build their building.
No, wait, I've got it. We're going to find out that the mother is actually Ranjit's daughter. Yeah. I would definitely rather have long, drawn-out episodes centering around these plot points that building toward Ted actually meeting her. Maybe if we're lucky the next 14 or so episodes can really center on exactly why Robin changed her mind on olives and, in the final few seconds of the final episode, Ted can say "Hey," to the mother just to wrap things up nicely.

I'm not gonna deny that the Mother/Barney moment was by far the weakest part of the episode. But there was still so much good in it.
