That made the rest of the season worth it to this point.

I thought that was supposed to be Ted telling her story, which should lead us to wonder what she sees in a guy who is so self-absorbed that he goes on and on about the years of his life leading up to meeting her yet only spends a few minutes on her story from the same period of time.

Thought about it, and you're more right than me. The longest wedding party in history has been intolerable.

I really don't know if I can fault a character for "being self absorbed" or "long-winded" when the premise of the show is his recollections about what led to him meeting his wife that has carried on as the show has carried on.

Yes, this story could have been as simple as, "Hey kids, before I married your mom, I met this woman named Robin. I fell in love with her and in trying to make things work, I found we weren't compatible. I spent a few years trying to get over her and had a series of humorous and some times heartbreaking encounters with other women, but the whole time, I never really allowed myself to let her go. When I did, when I finally accepted she and I were never meant to be, I found the true love of my life at — of all places — Robin's wedding."

I think suspending reality for the sake of the show is called for here. Yes, if this was real, Ted is self absorbed who has tortured his kids for 84 hours (give or take an hour or two), but it isn't. The story is a premise for a sitcom has needed to be stretched out as the success of the show brought more seasons.

Good thing this board didn't exist while "M*A*S*H*" was on the air.

"Holy fuck, why have they been dragging the Korean War on for 11 years??"

One of my favorite moments from this show was Barney telling the Robin-Barney story to Quinn in under a minute (or 30 seconds, I forgot what it was).

I think there were several really great episodes last season. I love it.

No, we won't, but hopefully we will be thinking back on more strong episodes in this final season like the one Monday night.
