I'm so angry right now. I was really hoping that they were going to go down this road. But damn. WHY. WHY. WHYYYYYY.

Ugh. I missed the opening scene. Guess it was clearer in that. I'm right there with you. I absolutely HATE having them go that route.

Yeah, but who's mom? Ted's or his wife's? And why is that so central to the story of them getting married?

Ted's wife. The Mother. The way they tear up at the line "what mother is going to miss her daughter's wedding?"

PLEASE let this be a red herring.

Exactly. Hell, if it was his mother, I wouldn't care at all.

I can't believe they are going to kill the mom.

I was one of the ones who, on an older thread, theorized about the Mother being dead.

I did not think I would be, nor did I wish to be, correct.

    What an absolute bummer.

So we know the mom is alive in 2024 and thinks she has been diagnosed with cancer (or some other incurable disease). What year is he telling the story to the kids?

I thought the kids were supposed to be teenagers when he tells the story, so it would have to be later than 2024.

LOL to every mf'er on this thread who sneered and dismissed the "mom is dead" theory.

Yeah, I just couldn't remember if they've ever told us what year the talk is happening.

I took that bit as another story we have yet to hear. My guess is that The Mother's mom died right before their wedding day or something. I never once assumed that it meant that she was dying.
