I haven't watched a minute yet tonight, but I was thinking about something today.
A few episodes back when they said the "what kind of mother doesn't show up for their daughter's wedding" and there was that upsetting look on both their faces and the internet assumed this met the mother was going to be dead, isn't it entirely possible it was a reference to their own wedding and not having one of their mothers there?

The biggest question to answer tonight is that coupled with the 45 more days speech. Those were too big not to address. (I'm West Coast so I'm checking out for a few hours. Be well, everyone. I am very much looking forward to this episode.)

I have no words for how awful that ending was.

Knew I was going to hate it if they went that route and I was absolutely correct. They really gave me some hope with the last couple of episodes, but my first reaction is to be really pissed.

    WHY. WHY. WHY. WHY. WHY.

Ted and the Mother only got 10 years together. TEN. YEARS. Think about your soulmate and you only get 10 years with them and you (or they) have to live on. That's just fucking depressing.

I liked the fact that the kids totally gave their approval and told Ted to call up Aunt Robin and he found the blue French horn.

    But jeez.

I don't even know what to think right now. Except sad that we spent 9 years watching a show and Ted barely got more than that with the Mother. We could almost have watched their entire relationship in real time.

I get that the last scene was supposed to turn the premise on its ear. The kids figure it out. This really isn't the story of how he met the mother after all.

That said, I still don't like it.

Appropriate ending, I guess. But awful, just awful.

Fuck this show. I feel like an asshole for watching it for nine fucking years. I won't even watch old episodes in syndication after that shitshow.

Robin's a no-nonsense career woman who can take care of herself and hates bullshit.

Ted's an unrelenting romantic bullshitter who wants to be seen as a hero to the woman in his life.

Ted is the exact opposite of the kind of man Robin should ever even think about wanting to be with, but in the end she relents because well what Robin really needs is a man who fixes things for her and other misogynistic fuckwad writing.

Not great...not terrible. Guess the ending was appropriate. But the back-and-forth with the kids was awful. Just badly spliced in some spots. I remember hearing they taped that part with the kids a few years back, but it was obvious.

The show is over. Oh well.

Oh, as for the pineapple. Carter Bays said they should have never left that hanging...but had no story for it.

I mostly agree with MC, though there are some amazing moments that I know I'd watch again given the chance. Ted finally getting together with Robin, only to come home and find Marshall alone on the steps with Lily's engagement ring is still one of my favorite moments on any show ever.

But if I could address the writers about the ending? You sons of a bitch!

Rick kinda nailed it, too. Ted and Robin don't work. As odd and annoying as I found much of the final episode, I still would have left the series satisfied if they had just left Ted with the mother very much alive at the end.
