How he finally met the mother (Season 9)

That would have been powerful, especially if he was telling his kids the story to let them know how his mother was the love of his life.

The biggest mistake was having him wind up with Robin. That was far worse than having the mother die and having Barney and Robin get divorced after such a short period of time.

You're just bitter because your favorite shitty show is gone. :D

I think the saddest thing is that on a message board with sports journalists, most of whom likely have no TV writing background, we came up with better ideas in the hours after the finale aired than they did in the nine years they had to write the ending.

I think part of the problem is so few shows get to go out on their own terms and the expectations for finales in general is pretty high, but for this show it was especially high because the whole concept of the show led up to the final show.

The Seinfeld finale was sub-par, but I don't think people judge the series based on the finale. I would say the same thing about The Sopranos.

I think with this show, this is going to be how the show is remembered.

How would The Sopranos be remembered if it had run all seven seasons and dedicated less than two full episodes total to Tony, and then killed him off in the finale so A.J. could run the business?

    Eh. Poor analogy.
The Sopranos was a show just as much about Tony's family as his "family" in the mob so they could have made that work.
The equivalent would be if the entire series was built around Tony and Chris battling over control for the crime family but, in the finale, we find out that it was all about them battling over the last cannoli at a restaurant.

    And then Carmela married Silvio.

"People" hated the Sopranos finale and still get angry about it.

And even that was light years better than this.

The saddest thing, to me, is that so many sportswriters with no TV writing experience are convinced they would have done better and not could have done better.

Think about that next time you get a complaint call from a reader.

    I liked the Seinfeld ending.
