Didn't we do this a couple of years ago? I thought someone revived the thread.

My count then: 50. It hasn't gone up. No territories, though.

Foreign countries: About 25-30, Nicaragua being the latest. Got back Friday. Recommended.

    47. Every state except North Dakota, Hawaii and Alaska. I had the chance to go to the Pro Bowl several times, but never did it. That would have solved Hawaii. I also had done only a stopover at the airport in Salt Lake City until a few years ago, so I never new if Utah counted. ... But some friends and I decided to go to Salt Late City for New Year's Eve (decision was made night before), for no good reason other than none of us had ever been there (my stopover notwithstanding). We had dinner, found a place to have a drink (woo hoo) and then flew to Las Vegas the next morning.

recently went on a 10,000 mile, one month road trip that took me through 25 (that number includes Utah and Colorado which I visited at Four Corners, but that counts, right). I added quite a few states to the previous total.
I have only seen North Dakota and Mississippi at night.

actually spent the night in 19 different states, lived in three, and had a byline/shot a story for TV in nine

Some would say I've only been in two states: dazed and confused.

In my younger days I had a "dirt jar." Every state I visited, I'd stop, scoop up a little dirt and throw it in the jar. I tried to make the scoop representative of each state. I had some red clay from a dirt road in Georgia, some soil from a Kansas wheat field, sand from a swatch of New Mexico desert or Florida beach, etc. Sometimes I just took what I could get, and scooped up a little from the dog run next to a gas station right across the state line.
I didn't get every state I visited because the habit started after I'd visited some I'd never get back to, but I think the number of states represented is in the 20s. Maybe one day I'll get a chance to finish it.

    47 states. I lack:

    Oregon

    Idaho

    Kansas

    27 countries

The hardest state to get is probably either Alaska or North Dakota. I figure I could do Oregon/Idaho together and then go to Kansas, to me the most boring state, last. Also, I don't think airport layovers should count but driving through, particularly if you've had a meal, should.
