They are blaming Ike for the spike but I suspect it didn't take much prodding to raise the pices.

 

Station in Brandon, Mississippi (just outside of Jackson) was charging $5.17 a gallon. It was a loner, though. Stations across the street were still around $3.60. Not suprisingly, business was bad at the $5 place.

 

It seems that that $5 mark has hit quite a few places in the south - Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Georgia. I think we all saw this with Katrina to bat down the hatches, it's going to be a ride to remember.

 

My mom's reporting $5.50 in Tallahassee, ahead of Ike's outskirts.

Some guy was in the convenience store where I stopped was saying, "It'll be 5 bucks by next week, you watch. Any time it gets cloudy in the Gulf, they raise prices."

Place where I filled up yesterday at 3.49 was now 4.61 ... fuckin price gougers

 

Filled up Tuesday for $3.39. Tonight in upstate South Carolina, $3.99 is the cheapest (I picked one of those "bargain" spots to fill up). It is as high as $4.39 on my exit - a place that was $3.44 Wednesday.
Price gougers, indeed. I realize the Southeast gets hit harder by things like gas pipelines shutting down and supply issues, but damn. That's ridiculous.
