West coast, mainly. Also, many gas stations have two prices for diesel, going after truckers who use cards.

Processing fee. Used to be rather common in the southeast but one day I noticed that most stations – all stations? had quit doing it.

There's a station near my house that charges a nickel less for cash and also gives the discount for debit cards, too. And it's been consistently the cheapest place in my area for a while. The only station I've had to wait in line to fill up at just about ever.

Shell might be the most common offender...and that was in New England yesterday.

What happens is when a customer uses a true credit card for a purchase, the company/person accepting the credit card is charged a flat fee plus a percentage of the total purchase price. So, for a sale of $25.96, said company will receive less than the original $25.96. Plus, they have to wait about three or four business days for the money. However, it against the contracts that the accepting company has with Visa/MasterCard/etc. for a company to charge a person to use a credit card. So the way around this is to raise the price sightly and then give discounts to cash/debit card paying customers.

You might not have seen it, but it is a rather common practice.

No, I know. I figured, because I'd seen people on her posting about it. I just finally asked where it was happening, because I'd never seen it.

I had never encountered it until the past couple months out here on the West Coast.

$2.669 yesterday afternoon around the corner from work.
That was cash price, credit was 2.729 and that is a very common practice in NJ.

Another place nearby was 2.699 cash or credit same price.
