This is an obvious play on us by Big Oil, along with the take: Supply is down.

Look, the worldwide economy is in the shit hole. China halted its overconsumption after the Olympics, true; but to drop by almost $100 a barrel in a month? Right after the American economy, the linchpin in the world market, gets through a Christmas where people have extra money to spend thanks to gas being $2.30 a gallon cheaper than August, we'll see sudden hikes again.

Another theory: Big Oil is positioning themselves so that world moneys go to bailouts of car companies and banks, etc., rather than our energy infrastructure which would in turn, weaken their status on the big stage.
