How much did you pay for gas today?

$2.99 across the board. Similar to back when gas was approaching $4, no one locally wants to be the first to break the $3 barrier.

Cold weather in the Northeast, where heating oil is used the most, will also cause a rise in demand.

This thread title should be changed to "How the fuck did you manage to pay for gas today".

With a recent rise in both VAT and fuel duty, the station near my house is selling for £1.28, which works out to about $7.65 per U.S. gallon at the current exchange rate.

I'd kill for prices like that.

I was in a far western suburb today where gas is always cheaper because you're not dealing with the additional Chicago and Cook County taxes, and it was still $3.199.

Still, $0.40 less than in Chicago, but $0.40 more than what you're paying in the downtown of a major city.

Seems like it kept creeping up late last year out here in Oregon. Once the $3 barrier was passed, price has been jumping up. Place right by our office (traditionally one of the cheapest in town) was $3.03 a couple of weeks ago. Last week it started at $3.13 and ended at $3.17.

Sorry to politicize this, but to me after watching the pattern of discourse on Fox News the past six months, I hate that Obama seemed to take his eye off the speculators, who seemed to lay low in the first two years of his presidency. But, once the GOP got its footing and momentum back, here they come. Admittedly, Bush II and the speculators made a killing off this the first time, and I think it had as much to do with driving the economy into the ditch as FM/FM and China, who were partners in the speculation scheme. He could gain a lot of affection among the middlers of the political spectrum who can turn a re-election if he'd go back to attacking this. The cronies on both the left and the right who are making money on this sure as hell won't help.
