I feel lucky to have filled up @ $3.059 for regular on Monday in 20706.

By the way, why in the world to they still use that bleepin' 9/10 of a cent? Are people still that intellectually shallow that they see $3.099 as being more below $3.10 than it really is?

Explain why the value of .001 cent is worth anything more than an exhale.

I pass two gas stations on the way to work. The one that generally has a better price was $3.10 on Thursday, $3.25 on Friday. Its competition across the street is $3.39.

$3.23, up about 30 cents from this time a week ago.

Anywhere from $3.18 to $3.40 here. It's jumped almost 50 cents from what it was two weeks ago. Passed several gas stations on the way to a basketball game that ranged from $3.24 to $3.40. Then I saw the one that was at $3.18, so I stopped there and filled up.

I remember when people tried that 5 1/2 years ago in the days after Katrina. They were prosecuted for price gouging. I hope the same thing happens this time, except with a sharpened ice cream scooper instead of a lawbook.

What are the chances something does happen? I say slim and none.

I don't understand the economics of this whole gas prices thing.

If the supply is up and the demand is up, the prices are up.
If the supply is down and the demand is up, the prices are up.
If the supply is up and the demand is down, the prices are up.
If the supply is down and the demand is down, the prices are up.

I remember filling up for $1.67 per gallon the first time I filled up. (Didn't start driving until I was 18 and I'm 26 now). The pattern used to be: Prices were down from January-May, up from May-September, steady from October-November and down in December.

Now they're up from January-April, way up from April-May, incredibly up from May-September, dangerously up from September-November and slightly down in December.

Doesn't matter what's going on in the world, doesn't matter what the supply levels are, the prices keep going higher and higher.

It's really ridiculous and I hope that, someday, the sources for these gas price increases dies a slow and very, very, very painful death.

Weird thing was, around January of 2010 there was a massive dip. I remember it getting as low as $1.39 around here before it started a quick climb up. The first time it got back under $2 I felt like taking a picture. It settled back around $2.50 by summer and had been there until this recent spike.
For as much grandstanding as was done last time, maybe it's time to drag some folks back in front of Congress to explain themselves.

See, I don't mind paying more for gas ... when it makes sense to.

Memorial Day weekend? OK. I get it. More demand, higher prices.
BP Oil Spill? Natural disaster in some foreign country? OK. I get it. Less supply, higher prices.

But now it seems like every time someone with a turban farts, gas goes up 30 cents. It doesn't make any sense and it pisses me off that we're so far behind the times with this whole electric car concept.
