How much did you pay for gas today?

We paid whatever the speculators wanted us to pay. Same answer will apply tomorrow, and the next days. On your knees, people, and kiss their rings.

Just when there are whispers that the economy might start to get better, gas at $4 a gallon will change all of that. It will be just like three years ago when nobody took vacations and all that fun stuff...

And just like in 2008, the bubble will burst and the speculators will lose their shirts. These prices are unsustainable given the supply glut we have. Unfortunately, we have to deal with the pain before that happens.

The solution would be to prohibit banks from speculating on commodities. They're taking TARP money and going all Charles Barkley on NYMEX instead of, you know, making loan money available to consumers and businesses.

Tourism industry and NFL stadium workers.

The filthy wealthy say fuck em all. In other words, if you're not a megacorporate giant in your business, it's your fault.

    And this country rots.

Average here has crept above £1.30 a liter. That equates to just short of £5, or $8, a U.S. gallon. So guess what? You're STILL paying half as much as a good deal of the rest of the world.

Which doesn't make sense either. Canada has the oil to live off itself. WTF should they pay $8? Or did I throw at the wrong target on the map?

Oh and in most countries, suburbia doesn't flourish as much as it does in the US of A. Keeps everything close, and there's ample mass transit in other places.

Gas fell to $3.30-3.39 here today. Doubt it lasts through the weekend.

Yes. You did. The £ symbol might have been a clue.

The difference is gas has always been high in Europe because the markup is virtually all because of taxes, and the public is used to it. Those taxes help fund public transportation and even the tiniest village has at least bus service, if they're not on a railway. And the high prices have been long ago absorbed by the public, who drive smaller cars and shorter distances.

Here there are few alternatives to the automobile, unless you want to commute 20 miles by foot in a lot of cases. Our economy has grown so accustomed to low fuel prices that any rapid rise is a shock. And unlike in Europe, everybody has to pay it here.

Filled up for $3.66 today on my way to work. Hit $40 for a 10-plus gallon fill-up for the first time in a long time. Guess that's what I get for waiting until I'm almost empty to get gas.
