    If gas gets much higher, I'm going to rent the apartment across the street from my office and just quit driving.

    There's a gas war going on here. It's $3.66 at a station three blocks from my office and it's $3.89 the next town over, which is more of the prevailing price.

    Gas has been pretty steady for the last couple of weeks, so maybe it's hitting a peak.

    Just like in 2008, I think $4.00 is a major psychological squeal point where people cut down their consumption.

    Of course, $5.00 will be a bigger one.

    So when the average inched up to $4.00, suddenly demand dips, the big pigs in the Big Oil board rooms said, "holy shit, the golden goose is starting to squeal, better ease off the throttle just a little bit." Just like in 2008.

    My bet is it will hover between $3.75-$4.00 most of the summer, edging up and over for the holiday weekends. Then after Labor Day, they'll put the hammer down, push it up and over $5.00 in an effort to,

    1) Rake in a few more hundred billion in profits;

    2) Get rid of the evull evull M.N. who is so cruelly persecuting them (never mind those record profits) and bring in their close warm personal friend, Willard-Mitt, to run things the way they want them run.

    It was $3.64 here on March 30, or whenever my last post was. And it's still $3.64. I'm not sure why, but that's OK, since at least it hasn't been going up every three days as it was before that.

    Gas is DOWN six cents here in Rhode Island for about $3.93. I think I'll use this windfall to ultimately buy a pack of gum next month.
